The Sacred Grove
Named for the places where communities gathered to transform.
The name Lund comes from founder Carter Luense’s family heritage — tracing back through East Prussia, Low German, and Scandinavian traditions to the Old Norse word lundr: sacred grove. In ancient Norse and Germanic cultures, the lundr was a gathering place for ritual, transformation, and renewal — where communities came to seek wisdom among the trees, much as Celtic druids held their rites in sacred groves called nemetons.
The Roman historian Tacitus wrote that the Germanic peoples “consecrate woods and groves and apply the name of gods to that mysterious presence which they see only with the eye of devotion.” The Icelandic Landnámabók records settlers founding homes at places called Lund and holding the grove sacred. Today, we carry that tradition forward.
